Ever wanted to know more, from an insider's insider, about what happens during a presidential campaign - when the going gets tough, how the press is handled, why money is spent the way it is or certain voters are courted more than others, why someone is chosen over someone else to be the vice presidential candidate? Ever wonder how something gets included in a major speech, or why a major speech is scheduled for no obvious reason? Ever wonder what happens inside the White House, when problems also have to be managed while keeping in mind the politics of the situation (the current health care debate would be a good example)? Ever wanted to hear what an insider has to say about the 2000 election debacle: Florida, the Supreme Court, absentee ballots & all the other issues that put G.W. Bush in office? Ever wondered what Jimmy Carter is really like, or Hillary Clinton?

Wednesday, November 4, Democrats Abroad Florence is hosting the legendary Bob Shrum; he will speak to us "The Obama Administration: One Year Later." Bob (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bob_Shrum) is a top Democratic political strategist and long-time Washington insider who has worked with many at the highest levels of our government including Ted Kennedy, Bill Clinton, Al Gore and John Kerry. He makes regular appearances on national level political television programs, is an author & a professor at New York University. He is smart, irreverent, authoritative, savvy & v-e-r-y connected.

Bob is donating his time to Democrats Abroad because he knows the good work we do - & the results we get. He also knows that, in order for us to continue to be an important voice in critical elections, we need money for voter outreach. We're asking for a modest sum - about the cost of a pizza & a movie: $30 (about €20) - or more if you like. : )

100% of the money raised will go to voter registration efforts.
Please, please, please donate. I'm asking as a personal favour. If you can't come, please donate: https://www.democratsabroad.org/contribute/, then select "Celebration in Florence" from dropdown menu. For a small donation, you can help ensure that millions of Americans around the world are able to vote in the 2010 elections.

Bob will speak to us in the beautiful, historic, prestigious Sala Luca Giordano in Palazzo Medici-Riccardi ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Palazzo_Medici_Riccardi) on Wednesday, November 4, 5pm-7:30pm. He will take questions about the most pressing issues in Washington today, as well as satisfy your curiosity about prominent Democrats from the last 35 years.

You don't have to be a Democrat Abroad to donate. Heck, you don't even have to be a Democrat to donate - all sinners welcome!

Will you please show your support? I would really appreciate it.

Thanks a lot,
Jo-Ann*
