Tourist AttractionsThe DuomoThe Florence cathedral is a vast Gothic structure built over 140 years. Recognisable by its dome or cupola, the Duomo has become the symbol of the city. The cathedral of Florence was consecrated by Pope Eugene IV on 25 March 1436.

The Uffizi MuseumThe most visited museum in Florence, the Uffizi museum houses a collection of artwork from the Renaissance period. Artists include Giotto, Botticelli, Leonardo da Vinci, Michelangelo, Raphael, Titian, Caravaggio and other German, Spanish and Dutch artists. The museum is organised in chronological order from the 13th to the 18th centuries. It is recommended that visitors reserve tickets in advance. Tickets can be purchased via the website.
The Leaning Tower of PisaSituated in the Campo dei Miracoli, the world famous Leaning Tower of Pisa was designed as the bell tower for the neighbouring cathedral. Building work began in 1173 and took 200 years to complete. The tower began leaning shortly after construction began due to the instability of its foundation. Recently extensive engineering works were carried out to stabilise the tower and it is now possible for visitors (accompanied by a guide) to climb to the top.
The Giacomo Puccini House MuseumEstablished in 1973 by the Puccini foundation, this is the house where the composer Giacomo Puccini was born. Located in the centre of Lucca, it is now a museum dedicated to the man and his works. Puccini Villa Museum: On his return from Milan in 1891, Puccini resided in Torre del Lago. The house, situated on the western shore of Lake Massaciuccoli, is now a museum dedicated to Puccini.
The Leonardo MuseumHoused in the Castello dei Conti Guidi, the museum houses collections of machines and models designed by the Tuscan artist, scientist and inventor. The museum takes the visitor through 128 thematic points covering Da Vinci's life. It is also possible to visit the house where he was born a few kilometres outside Vinci.
ElbaThe largest island in the Tuscan archipelago, Elba is famous as the place where Napoleon was exiled. Boats leave hourly from the mainland and take approximately 90 minutes to reach the 86 square mile island. The island is protected as part of the National Park of the Tuscan Archipelago and from Elba, it is possible to take trips to the neighbouring islands of Capraia, Pianosa and Gorgonia. The ferries leave from Piombino all year round and Livorno in the summer time. Various smaller companies operate on the route; however there are two principle large companies: Torremar and Moby.
The Chianti Wine RouteThe Chianti wine region located between Florence and Siena covers an area of 65 square miles. There are many wineries along the route and it is sometimes possible to reserve a visit in advance. The two main towns in the area are Castellina in Chianti and Greve in Chianti. The Bolgheri wine route: Also known as The Estruscan Coast Wine Route, the Bolgheri area is home to recognised wineries including Sassicaia and Ornellaia. It starts in Bolgheri and heads south, parallel with the Etruscan coast passing Castegneto Carducci (birthplace of the Italian poet Giosuč Carducci), Campiglia and Sureveto.
